| Neck pain and associated problems are one of the most common disorders seen by health service providers. Many believe that this is due to our increasingly computer-dependant, desk-bound society.
In Western countries, Neck Pain is one of the major causes of sick leave and workers compensation. There is also a large frequency of neck injuries with motor vehicle accidents, particularly "rear-enders". This type of neck injury is commonly termed "Whiplash", and refers to the sudden, forceful backwards then forwards motion of the neck.
Neck Pain can be very difficult to treat effectively, with a significant proportion of the population going on to suffer what is called "Chronic Neck Pain" or pain lasting longer than 6 months duration. Treatment of neck problems is dependent on the diagnosis and cause of the symptoms. Sufferers of neck pain should investigate appropriate and effective treatment interventions.
